Harnessing Positive Energy for Industry Prosperity

Energizing Enterprises with Advanced AC and DC Technology

— A capture of UHV Converter Stations

In the golden autumn's gentle breeze,
Our power station hums with ease.
All hands unite, with spirits high,
To meet the goals without a sigh.

After persevering through the intense summer heat, we welcome the cool autumna harvest season. Following nearly a year of dedicated effort, the Ultra-High Voltage (UHV) project has entered the critical phase of delivery and installation. Time is of the essence and challenges abound, but under the guidance of leaders at all levels and through the hard work of every committed employee, the State Grid's UHV project is steadily approaching a successful culmination.

Chronicles of the Dongping Converter Station

From Zhongning, known as the hometown of China's goji berries, to the Bangguo Converter Station in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Ganzi, extending to Chongqing's Yubei Converter Station, and further to the Dongping Converter Station, then south to the Hengyang Converter Station in Hunan, famously called the Swallow City, and onward to Daye, the cradle of China’s bronze culture—each site proudly stands a "JWZN" reactor, showcasing the dynamics of China's UHV power grid.

The Longdong-Shandong ±800kV UHVDC transmission project marks the nation’s first  integration of wind, solar, thermal, and storage energy sources for power transmission using UHVDC technology. Spanning 926 kilometers, the line originates in Qingyang, Longdong, and Gansu. It terminates in Dongping, Tai'an, and Shandong, traversing five provinces: Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, and Shandong, with 109 kilometers of the line stretching across Gansu. The project received official approval on February 27, 2023, and construction commenced on March 16, 2023.

With a total investment of 20.2 billion yuan, the Longdong-Shandong ±800kV UHVDC project is set to be completed and operational by June 2025. Once completed, it will integrate and transmit electrical energy, combining Gansu's wind, solar, thermal, and storage power generation methods to Shandong. This will result in an annual transmission capacity of over 36 billion kWh, with more than 50% coming from renewable energy sources.
